HI All, looking back on the last two months of 2021 we have a lot to be grateful for as we shift gears into 2022. SACU is formalizing is operations, but that has introduced a few more costs.

Food, Fuel and Electricity costs has risen substantially since January 2021

We have all seen in the news here how food and fuel costs are rising, and supply chain issues create occasional product shortages.  In Uganda, similar situations exist, and the school has reduced meat portions in the nutrition program as one means to control expenses.  But delivery drivers, van fuel, firewood, and electricity costs continue to increase.  The school Director, Ivan Nsera, and Head Teacher Ann Isubah, work diligently to obtain the best value for the school.  We should not be surprised if costs increase somewhat throughout the year.

SACU has hired a Bursar/clerk, and a secretary to support the staff.

As the SACU Primary school grows, it has become necessary to hire an accountant/bursar, and search for a competent secretary to support the teachers and Head Teacher Ann.  Our charitable status here in Canada requires regular reports of student performance from Uganda. We are experiencing  technical limitations at the school which makes this task challenging.  Also, we will be using our SACU contacts in Uganda to ensure our communications with all our post primary schools are clear and well understood.  These are additional administrative  costs that we agree are necessary to operate effectively.

SACU is also now required to pay Payroll Taxes

SACU operated for several years as a small rural school.  Ivan recognized long ago that as the school grew, he would need to register with other governmental agencies (other than the Ministry of Education and Sport).  This also requires paying into the National Pension Fund, financially supported  by both employer and employee taxes.  New registrations and enrollments for this fund are complete, and payroll tax has added $500 monthly to SACU expenses.  The new organization “S.A.C Buikwe (U)” was created as part of this process.  SACU Nursery and Primary School exists under this umbrella organization.

Thank you again for all you do making all this possible. While cost have increased remember we’ve received our charitable status for education, so look forward to a post of how that benefits us and you!!!
