The post office is open in Kampala! If you would like to send a package or letter we ask that you please use the child’s Student # to ensure the correct child receives your gift. Below is a link to a chart showing your child’s Student #. Also there has been a few corrections on the spelling of children’s name and you will see this with the note beside the name.

THANK YOU

COVID 19 closed SACU and brought us back in time where the children were not being fed, educated or having their health monitored. Although the area did not seem to have many deaths or great illness they still suffered. As far as Ivan knows, only 1 child passed away during the first 6 months of the school closure, from starvation rather than illness. SACU has worked so hard for 10 years to bring the children in these vulnerable situations to school where they could be cared for in ways the families could not provide. Our children were now staying home, living on inadequate nutrition, drinking water from unhealthy sources and lacking the encouragement of the amazing teachers & role models of school. Ivan did everything he could to ensure the families had food & seeds to replant their gardens during the shut down. Thanks to so many Sponsors & donors, we were able to assist with monthly food packages being delivered to families in the village. The Government published Safe Operating Procedures which were quickly brought to our attention. In order for SACU to be ready to open when it was safe, many items were needed. Below are some of the tasks that were done & purchases that were made so that SACU could be certified & ready to reopen in what ever form that would be. As it turned out the High School students from St Julian returned to online learning held in class at SACU after 6 months. The Quality High School students, returned to SACU and worked in printed workbooks to keep up on their studies.

We continue to pray for the children that they may stay healthy, fed and eager to return to classroom learning.

FORMAL EDUCATION

SACU offers kindergarten, primary, high school and vocational education to orphans and vulnerable children through an established school called SACU Nursery and Primary School at no charge to the parent/caregiver. SACU currently works with community educational partners that include St. Julian High School-Gayaza and St. Charles Lwanga Technical Institute, Muwonge.

Below is statistical enrollment report 2018.

NB: Children with special needs include those affected by HIV/AIDS virus, cognitive and physical challenges. Scholastic materials like exercise books, reading books, pens, colored pencils and school uniforms are provided to all children through sponsorship & special donations.

The P7 class writes national exams in November each year. Upon achieving a passing grade, the student is then allowed to enter Secondary School. In 2017 we were honoured to have 11 students granted admission to one of the highly rated Secondary Schools in Uganda, St Julian – Gayaza.

St Charles Lwanga is the excellent Technical School where students have opportunities to take courses in a trade such as Agriculture, Business, Computer Studies as well as Mathematics, Social Studies and more. Currently we have 3 boys studying here.
